PLANNING: IDENT

To make our ident we filmed in three different locations with me doing the same sshhing motion, in order to convey the idea of me stalking the audience. We edited our ident in Final Cut Pro so we could put together all three of the videos, put different filters on them and add our production name onto it. We chose to put a filter of black and white on our ident to make it seem more like a CCTV camera and to add a sinister feel to it. We also placed a CCTV filter over two of the videos to obviously make it again seem like the audience are watching through a CCTV camera and that they are watching me and I am watching them. Finally, we added text on top of the videos which gradually dissolves in, the text includes the name of our production company, No Name Productions. We also added a special effect on the text to make it seem more electric and static. This effect makes the whole ident seem more eerie and creepy.

PLANNING: HOT SEATING

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT - ALICE AND EMILY

We created our hot seating as it is a way for our actors to really dive into their characters personal life as they are asked questions about their family, personality and home life. We filmed our Hot seating with the Canon 370 and we used a tripod to help steady the camera which also let us manipulate the tripod so we could explore loads of different angles.

We wanted to make our hot seating set in a therapy room so in order to make this look as real as possible we used a black curtain behind the characters and placed a table in between the character who was talking and the therapist who was asking the questions.

In order to get to know Emily and Alice better, Charlie asks lots of specific questions regarding their family, the dynamic of their family, the bond between each other and their own personalities.

Emily is presented as a very calm individual who doesn't try very hard to please her family yet she she is still the favourite. We wanted her to be on her phone during her talk with the therapist to portray the idea that she doesn't take it seriously.

Alice is presented as a very energetic, optimistic, positive girl. She always finds the positives out of everything and desperately wants to please her parents. To show her energetic, and bubbly side, she used small and quick movements like fidgeting in her hot seating. However, this is all just an act in a way. She almost is seen as trying to hard and deep down she is lonely.

PLANNING: RISK ASSESSMENT

HAZARD TO HEALTH AND SAFETY
RISK POSED AND TO WHOM
LEVEL H/M/L
CONTROL MEASURE REDUCE RISK
Danger coming from falls or slips

Tripping over objects on the ground and injuring yourself.

All students
This is a very low risk level

We can reduce the risk of this occurring by wearing appropriate footwear and being cautious.

Weather

When filming outside making it possible to not be caught in heavy rainfall and making sure that the surfaces walking on are steady and will not become slippery meaning the chances of falling over and injuring ourselves are quite small.

All students
This is a low risk level

To wear appropriate clothing to prevent being cold. We can prevent this by planning ahead and checking the weather a day or couple hours before.

Making our way to destination

Making sure that roads are clear to prevent any danger from oncoming vehicles.

All students
Low risk level

We can prepare and be safe for this by checking every time we cross a road by looking both ways before walking out.

PLANNING: LOCATIONS

  • House = Main Location
  • Dark rooms
  • Typical teenage girls bedroom
  • Kitchen
  • Parents Room
  • Stairs

Our main location is set in an ordinary, average house. We decided this as our audience will be able to relate which will draw them in to watch more. Similarly we have used typical rooms for the parents room and our protagonists (Alice's) room. However, we have used a dark, eerie images creating a spine chilling scene: when the sister is crawling up from underneath the bed. This will be shown in a POV shot which creates personal aspect of the protagonist. All the other images have resembled similar rooms within the house we are filming in, we got images that are similar as can be. The image on the top left is the actual house we will be filming in.

PLANNING: PROPS

Creating a props list is very helpful as it makes it clear on what all of us need to buy, have and bring to the filming sessions and what to include in our short film.

The props I am going to need include:

  • Family photo
  • Mug
  • Alarm clock
  • Other photos of friends and family on desk
  • TV
